The association was founded in 1985 with the aim of promoting sea ​​kayaking , representing interests before associations and ministries, organizing meetings and trips, securing routes and destinations, exchanging information with partners at home and abroad, training on safety and equipment, developing boats and Material and literature exchange on the history of the Eskimo kayak .

Access to T2 signal missiles for sea kayakers was obtained for the first time from the Federal Ministry of the Interior.

In 2003 the Salzwasser-Union eV changed its name to the Salzwasser-Union - Association of Sea Kayakers . The purpose of the association is: practicing and promoting sea kayaking, in particular through

The Salzwasser Union has a self-created training concept with various courses and a self-created training book for coastal paddlers basic knowledge (loose-leaf collection). It publishes the club magazine Seekajak five times a year . The purchase of the sea ​​kayak is part of the membership and thus the membership fee.

The training consists of the following parts:

Furthermore, so-called "trial trips" are offered. The prerequisite for this is participation in an RST and club membership.
