Sambhu Nath De
Sambhu Nath De ( Bengali শম্ভুনাথ দে Śambhunāth De ; born February 1, 1915 in Garibati, Bengal ; † April 15, 1985 in Kolkata , West Bengal ) was an Indian researcher in the field of microbiology.
Life
De was born in the village of Garibati in the Hugli district. After training in Calcutta, he studied from 1947 to 1949 in London with a degree in pathology. In 1955 De became head of the Pathology and Bacteriology Division of Calcutta Medical College. His main research area was cholera . In 1959 he discovered the cholera toxin .
