San José de las Lajas is a city and a municipality in the north of the Cuban province of Mayabeque . Until 2010, the municipality was part of the dissolved province of La Habana .

The municipality is located northeast of Bejucal and southwest of Jaruco . The settlement was officially founded in 1778.

The municipality has 73,136 inhabitants on an area of ​​591 km², which corresponds to a population density of 123.2 inhabitants per square kilometer.

San José de las Lajas is divided into eleven districts ( Barrio ): Chávez, Cotilla, Ganuza, Independencia Norte, Independencia Sur, Jamaica, Jaula, Portugalete, San Andrés, Santa Bárbara and Tapaste.
