Sandra Völker

Sandra Völker (born April 1, 1974 in Lübeck ) is a former German swimmer . Her specialty disciplines were the short freestyle and back courses.

Life

Sandra Völker grew up in Bad Schwartau , where she a. a. trained swimming at VfL Bad Schwartau before moving to Hamburg in the mid-1990s . In 1992, the former national coach Dirk Henry-Richard Lange became her partner and coach. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, she won a silver medal and two bronze medals in the 100 m freestyle and received the silver laurel leaf from the Federal President for this medal. After working with Dirk Lange in Hamburg for ten years, she switched to Leipzig trainer Jirka Letzin . Half a year later, she surprisingly ended this collaboration and formed a training group since February 2004Stev Theloke and Katrin Meißner , who was led by Beate Ludewig . On October 25, 2006, she had a daughter and ended her career as an active swimmer on March 20, 2008. In 2013 she filed for personal bankruptcy . Former world-class swimmer Sandra Völker had to sell her Olympic medals and even her beloved swimsuits via an internet auction in 2014 to get out of these financial difficulties. Later she worked as an office worker at an online shop for vegan products and jungle herbs. After completing her personal bankruptcy in 2018, Völker worked as a freelance swimming trainer, lecturer for motivational training and retail employee in a boutique on Timmendorfer Strand .

Since Völker was diagnosed with asthma , she founded the "Sandra Völker Foundation", which endeavors to provide holistic treatment for children with asthma and allergies. In 2015 she published her autobiography.
