Order of Saint George Knights (Hungary)

The St George's military orders ( ung . Szent György Lovagrend ) was in 1326 by Charles Robert in Visegrád founded and George the dragon slayer chosen as the patron saint. The order was created after the time of the Crusades and is of courtly, not ecclesiastical origin. He was the first royal order of knights in the world, founded before the 1348 British Order of the Garter . The order primarily served to protect the monarch, but also to ward off the Turkish threat.

After the death of the last Grand Master of the Order of Saint George Knights in 1541, Ferdinand I confiscated the order's goods.
