Sanofi Pasteur MSD was the only company that specialized exclusively in the manufacture and sale of vaccines in Europe . This company was founded in 1994 by the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis and the American pharmaceutical company Merck & Co. Inc. (MSD). The shareholders each own 50 percent of Sanofi Pasteur MSD. The company's aim was to tailor vaccine research and development programs to meet European needs.
However, this cooperation ended at the end of 2016. Since January 2017, MSD and Sanofi-Aventis have been selling their vaccines on their own again.
Hexavac
Sanofi Pasteur MSD has manufactured the six-fold vaccine Hexavac ® . It was the main component of the Austrian free vaccination program for children.
