Santina José Rodrigues Ferreira Viegas Cardoso (born November 24, 1975 ) is a non-party politician from East Timor . From 2015 to 2017 she was the country's finance minister .

Career

Cardoso graduated from the Catholic University of Widya Mandira in Kupang, Indonesia , in October 2000 with a degree in economics specializing in economics and development . Immediately afterwards she worked for the Children Recovery and Resilience Program , a non-governmental organization for Timorese children. In 2001 Cardoso started working in the Labor Secretariat of the Constituent Assembly of East Timor . At the end of the year he was employed in the public administration of the country, which is still under UN administration .

When the first constitutional government came to power in 2002, Cardoso moved to the National Directorate for Planning and Coordination of External Aid (NDPEAC) in the Ministry of Finance as head of the Planning & Monitoring department . Because of her achievements, she was appointed Program Implementation Officer (PIO) of the Planning and Financial Management Capacity Building Project (PFMCBP) when the fourth constitutional government took office in 2007 . The Treasury Department's five-year program was overseen by the World Bank . Before it expired, Cardoso was appointed Director General for Company Support (DGCS) and entrusted with the creation of the Ministry of Finance's strategic plan, which included both personnel and budget planning.

In the fifth government , Cardoso was sworn in as Vice Minister for Finance on August 8, 2012 . Since 2014, she has represented the Finance Minister Emília Pires on an interim basis , who was faced with allegations of corruption. On February 16, 2015 Cardoso was in the VI. Government sworn in as finance minister. With the accession of the VII government on September 15, 2017, Rui Augusto Gomes took over the office of finance minister.
