Sarah Günther Werlein (* 25. January 1983 in Bremen as Sarah Günther ) is a former German football player . The midfielder was active in the women's Bundesliga from 2003 to 2010 and for the women's national team between 2001 and 2005 .
Athletic career
She began her football career at the age of 10 with VfB Komet Bremen . On March 6, 2001, she made her senior team debut against China . A year later she became European champion with the U-19s and reached third place in the first World Cup . In 2003 she moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga Hamburger SV . With the national team, she won the Olympic bronze medal in 2004 and the European championship in 2005.
For winning the bronze medal in 2004, she received the silver laurel leaf on March 16, 2005.
After the European Championships she moved to 1. FFC Frankfurt , with whom she became German champion in 2007 and UEFA Women's Cup winner in 2006 . Due to a protracted injury and illness, she was unable to play for a long time. She scored her first Bundesliga goal at 1. FFC Frankfurt on February 24, 2008 in the top match against FCR Duisburg. After renewing with the club for two more years in 2009, she ended her career the following year.
