Plauen show embroidery building

The Schaustickerei Plauen is a museum on regional industrial history and part of the historical sights of the city of Plauen . It is located in an ensemble of buildings made up of a residential building and an embroidery factory, which was built around 1900. Because of the historical structure and the original machine park , it is one of the authentic testimonies of Saxon industrial culture and was included in the list of cultural monuments of Saxony ( Plauen-Reusa list ) as early as 1995 .

history

In 1897, the upper telegraph assistant Max Vollstädt built a house on the land of the Reusa manor . In the course of the boom in the Plauen embroidery industry, machine embroidery was set up next to the house in 1902 by the subsequent owner Albert Schiller. The one-story courtyard building initially housed ten embroidery machines . The concept of the embroidery building, including window design, room division and transport routes, corresponded to the work processes of machine embroidery at the time. In the following decades the building changed hands several times, but it always remained an embroidery business with an associated residential building.

The embroidery was shut down in 1996. However, new operators were found in ABS Textil Plauen and the Vogtland Textile Museum Förderverein who initiated a transformation into a technical museum. The historical building ensemble as well as the machine inventory could be largely preserved. In December 2001 the association "Vogtland Textile History Plauen eV" took over the renovated and redesigned building complex. Since then, the association has been running show embroidery as a “living museum factory”.

Exhibitions

Shuttle embroidery machines in show embroidery

The permanent exhibition shows the work processes in a historical machine embroidery. Working machines are used to explain the manufacture of embroidery products and the creation of Plauen lace . What is unique is that, starting with the hand embroidery machine, all subsequent machine embroidery processes can be shown and demonstrated. Innovations in mechanical engineering made it possible to perfect the variety and quality of embroidery products around 1900. The Vogtländische Maschinenfabrik (VOMAG) under its then director Robert Zahn played a major role in this development .

In addition to the large embroidery machines, another part of the exhibition is dedicated to work with multi-head and small embroidery machines. Typical embroidery techniques on historical small embroidery and sewing machines are demonstrated and explained.

Together with the sponsoring association “Vogtland Textile History Plauen eV”, Schaustickerei also offers special exhibitions, lectures and events on the subjects of industrial and textile history as well as fashion and design.

deals

The show embroidery manufactures embroidery and fashion items in one-off or small series, which are sold through the museum shop. As part of museum education , u. a. Creative and educational courses for children and young people are offered. Another concern is research into regional textile history in the form of project work.
