Sindelfingen exhibition

The Sindelfingen show (own spelling: SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen ) is a museum for contemporary art in Sindelfingen and presents the top-class art collection of Peter Schaufler († 2015) and Christiane Schaufler-Münch in changing exhibitions .

history

Since the late 1970s, the couple has assembled over 3,500 works, building one of the largest private art collections in Germany. It includes high-ranking positions in German as well as international art, especially from Italy, France, Asia and South America. With the opening of the museum, which is part of The Schaufler Foundation , in 2010, many of the works can be seen publicly for the first time. Today the museum shows a representative selection of contemporary art from the Schaufler Collection on around 6,500 m² .

collection

The focus is on minimal art , conceptual art and concrete art, as well as works by the ZERO movement and its pioneers. In addition to painting and sculpture, light and space installations as well as contemporary photography occupy an important place in the collection. Larger complexes of works by Imi Knoebel , Günther Uecker , Rupprecht Geiger , John M. Armleder , Sylvie Fleury or Gerwald Rockenschaub are represented as well as smaller bundles , e.g. B. by Michelangelo Pistoletto , John Angus Chamberlain , Antony Gormley , Katharina Grosse , Andreas Gursky , Thomas Ruff and Anselm Kiefer .

architecture

The museum is located on the outskirts of Sindelfingen next to the company premises of "Bitzer Kühlmaschinenbau", whose management Peter Schaufler took over in 1979. In the course of an extensive renovation, the former production and storage halls of the Bitzer company were converted into spacious exhibition areas by the BFK Architects and a new building wing was added. The renovation was honored in 2011 by the Association of German Architects (BDA) with the Hugo Häring award . In autumn 2011, the former high-rise warehouse of the Bitzer fabrication was opened as a further exhibition space. The four-story building is accessed by a continuous ramp on the inside of the wall.

Sponsorship

The museum is supported by The Schaufler Foundation (own spelling: THE SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION), which Peter Schaufler founded in 2005. The aim of the foundation is to promote art and culture as well as research and teaching in the field of refrigeration technology, environmental protection and entrepreneurship. The goals are u. a. implemented with endowed professorships at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and the Technical University of Dresden and with the support of other projects.
