Schicke Führs Fröhling (also SFF ) was a German progressive rock trio.

history

Eduard Schicke (* February 14, 1947), Gerd Führs (* November 27, 1955; † November 3, 1992) and Heinz Fröhling (* May 7, 1951) met for the first time in 1974, when Führs was still keyboardist for Samspel and Drummer Schicke and guitarist Fröhling played at Spektakel .

The spark between the three immediately jumped over, and a short time later they were rehearsing in a farm that had been converted into a studio and, after a successful first appearance in Munich's Circus Krone , recorded the first LP Symphonic Pictures in 1976 under the direction of Dieter Dierks Sold 12,000 times. The following album, Sunburst (1977), as well as the SFF concerts, received high praise from fans and critics.

After the rather disappointing third LP Ticket To Everywhere (1978), Eduard Schicke left the band due to musical differences. He later joined Hoelderlin . Führs and Fröhling then concentrated more on their side project, Führs & Fröhling, whose first album Ammerland was released in early 1978.

In 2011, Heinz Fröhling and Eduard Schicke released the album Metamorphosen under the name Fröhling & Schicke with new pieces by Heinz Fröhling and texts by the writer Klaus Modick .

style

Schicke Führs Fröhling combined powerful jazz rock and symphonic progressive rock in their music . The sound was characterized by virtuoso drumming, anthemic guitar, powerful Rickenbacker bass and keyboard bombast (Fröhling and Führs both played Mellotron ). A prominent fan of the band was Frank Zappa , who almost produced the first album. But other bands too, some years later (like Änglagård ), were influenced by the very own sound of the group.
