history
Schiltigheim was built in the 9th century around a castle and a chapel on the last hills north of Strasbourg and extends on the slopes towards the Rhine . Its development is closely linked to the residents of Adelshoffen, who were expelled from the suburbs of Strasbourg in the 14th century and settled in the Unterdorf. The population fluctuated around 800 until the 18th century. With industrialization from 1850 onwards, the population increased and in 1905 reached 14,000.
Paul Camille Denis and his wife are buried in the St. Helenen Cemetery ( Cimetière Sainte-Hélène ) .
