The key bit is in a key of the one part, after the insertion of the key into the keyhole at the rotation of the key ring lock bolt detected. The key bit goes in a guide, as the cross-section of which the incisions of the key bit appear.

The more complex the cross-section and the more precise the guidance, the more secure the lock is against unauthorized opening.

Among others there are: Key with a beard (. Eg tumbler key and Chubb locks ), key with double-bit (. Eg in vaults or for arming / disarming alarm systems used), Berlin Key , cruciform keys etc.
