geography

The community lies above the Vorderrhein on the southern slope of a mountain range with the mountains Cavistrau and Péz Tumpiv. The highest point of the municipality is at Cavistrau-Pign at an altitude of 3220 m and the lowest at Fanels at 910 m. This means that the community never reaches the valley floor by the Rhine. The village, on the other hand, is reached on the Senda Sursilvana, a long-distance hiking trail along the young Rhine.

The ruins of Salons Castle and the Tower of Schlans are located in the former municipality of Schlans , recognizable on the national map as "Rna Casti" and "Tuor" respectively.
