Sling ball throw

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spinning ball throwing, known as sling ball throwing , is a ball sport that belongs to the athletic disciplines and is carried out individually. The sling ball has a loop (handle) attached to the ball. By turning it is accelerated and thrown far. The world record is 86.92 m ( Alwin Wagner , August 21, 1982, throwing day in Lohfelden ).

history

Turning technique: Hold the ball before turning it in. (Martin Michael Schmidt, TSG Bruchsal; multiple Baden youth and men's champion as well as German youth champion with 73.79 m, 1 kg; 60th place in the German all-time best list for men, 1.5 kg).
Turning technique: screwing in the second forward turn.
Turning technique: dropping.

The sling ball was developed from the sling ball game that was introduced in Germany at the end of the 19th century. At the first German gymnastics festivals in Dresden (1885) and Munich (1889), gymnastic games were presented by the Academic Gymnastics Association for the first time. The ball throwing of the Berlin Academic Gymnastics Club attracted particular attention. According to literature, the origin of the general game movement is seen near Berlin, in the “Schönholz” palace gardens. At the beginning of the 1890s it was again the Berliners who tried a sling ball game. The throwing device used was a ball with a solid, round leather strap that stretched over half the diameter of the ball.

Competition in Germany

The sling ball throw is competitively practiced in Germany in the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) as an individual discipline from district championships (only in Lower Saxony) and state championships (in all state gymnastics associations) to German championships. You can only qualify for the German championships by reaching the required distance at the regional championships of the Gymnastics Federation. In the German Athletics Association this discipline is not exercised.

The competition rules of the DTB provide for the following:

  1. The sling ball consists of a leather or plastic rubber cover with a dimensionally stable filling and has a leather loop as a handle, which is 28 cm (± 1 cm) long and 2.0 cm (± 0.3 cm) wide. The diameter is 65 to 70 cm, depending on the weight of the ball
  2. The ball weight varies according to age and gender:
    • 1.5 kg: M m18–19 to M m55–59
    • 1.0 kg: M / W m14–15 and M / W m16–17, W m18–19 to W m55–59, M m60–64 and older
    • 0.8 kg: M / F 12–13 and younger, F 60–64 and older
  3. The release takes place in the release area from a standing position, with a run-up or from a rotation. The length of the approach and the number of turns are prescribed.
  4. The lateral boundary lines must not be touched or exceeded during the experiment. The bar may be touched on the inside of the drop area, but not on its top.
  5. The attempt ends when the ball hits the ground. Only then may the thrower leave the start-up / drop area laterally or to the rear. Exceeding the bar or its lateral extension makes the attempt invalid.

As an individual discipline, the sling ball throw is also offered for the acquisition of the German sports badge or in the national youth games.

techniques

Turning technique The turning technique is the same as the technique of throwing a disc. The basics of a twist throw can be worked out well with a sling ball. The ball is held in the right hand of the right thrower. There are holding techniques with two, three or even four fingers. The loop of the strap is guided in the second and third phalanx. Injuries can occur with new belts. Some spin technicians spin the ball by an overhead rotation; in doing so, there is a risk that when the upper body is turned into the movement, the arm will not be guided behind the body. As a result, you lose the acceleration path to accelerate the sling ball out of the arm. In order to initiate the turning technique into the movement, it is necessary to guide the ball in the fully extended position of the arm. As a result of the rotation, the sling ball is continuously accelerated over the longest possible path. The legs overtake the device, which increases the twist between the shoulder and pelvic axes. The twist creates a tension that could be compared to that of a bow. This is why one speaks of "arc tension".

Some throwers only do one spin, some two or more. Shortly before the end of the throw, the stem leg is used as a fixation point. In this position, the back leg begins to rotate and stretch as explosively as possible, bringing the right hip and shoulder forward. When the body weight comes over the left leg, the pelvis and shoulder axes move in the direction of the throw. Then the drop takes place with a long limb at shoulder height.

Frieze technique:

Friesentechnik: start-up.
Frieze technique: dropping.

The Frisian throwing style is closely related to the throwing technique of the Frisian players, the Klootschießern. When putting the right foot down, the right arm is also down. With the continued upward arm movement, the left foot is put forward. This movement is then continued step by step until it turns into an increase run. While running, the left arm points slightly forward in the specified throwing direction. It does not move rigidly, but loosely in a slightly rotating form. There are special features with throwing from sideways motion or throwing with jump. Only the Frisian throw is used in the sling ball game, because it enables a sufficiently high directional accuracy through the vertical arm rotation and the forward movement on the only 15 m wide playing field.
