Buldern Castle

Castle Buldern is today as boarding school and private school unused manor in Dülmener district Buldern in Münsterland .

While the medieval seat of the von Buldern family was in the center of the village of Buldern , a new seat was built in front of the village in the 16th century at the latest, today's Buldern Castle. After several changes of ownership, it passed to the von Romberg family in the 18th century .

In the 1950s, the mansion housed the research center for comparative behavioral research of the Max Planck Institute for Marine Biology , where Konrad Lorenz carried out behavioral studies, mainly on geese, until 1961.

Buldern Castle is used today as a boarding school and private grammar school. Since the capacity of the castle building was insufficient, several additional buildings were built over the years to accommodate up to 300 internal students. Only a small part of the male students are currently housed in the original castle, the female students in the so-called "New House" on the new campus of the castle park . The school, a sports field and a student dormitory are located there.
