The Hoya Castle is a landmarked building complex in the city of Hoya in Lower Saxony Nienburg .
history
The three-wing complex is located on the eastern bank of the Weser . The east and west wings are on a floor plan that essentially dates back to the Middle Ages . It is a former castle , which was mentioned in 1233. It was located together with the church on an island in the Weser, which was only united with the place at the end of the 17th century by filling in the arm of the Weser. Until 1503 the castle was the seat of the lower counties of a line of the Counts of Hoya . After their extinction, Nienburg was the seat of the Counts of Hoya. The county fell back to the Dukes of Braunschweig as a settled fiefdom in 1582 . The castle has been the official seat since then and was last important as such during the Thirty Years War .
All windows and the tower were changed in the 19th century, some of them classical . The free-standing central building dates from 1840. Between 1852 and 1853, heightened floors. The building complex was combined with a uniform painting.
In 1859 the castle became the seat of the local court . After the district court district of Hoya was dissolved, the branch of the district court of Nienburg was housed here until November 2010 .
On November 11, 2013, the council of the city of Hoya decided with 9 against 6 votes to buy the castle with land from the state of Lower Saxony for a purchase price of 224,000 euros.
