The Lauchhammer-West Castle Church is located in the Lauchhammer Castle Park . It is a baroque church in Lauchhammer-West , a district of Lauchhammer in the south of the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in Brandenburg . The church is one of the listed buildings in Lauchhammer .

history

Porcelain group in the castle church around 1910

Baroness Benedicta Margareta von Löwendal took over the feudal lordship over the place Mückenberg, today's Lauchhammer-West. In 1737 she had Mückenberg Castle built , to whose complex the church belonged. The church was consecrated on October 31, 1746. Up to this point in time Mückenberg was parish in Bockwitz , today's Lauchhammer-Mitte.

Already in 1848 the church was very dilapidated and had to be reconstructed. The side walls were removed one after the other and attached to the ground with piles. The entrance was moved to the gable wall, which was also renewed. The roof was also re-covered.

After the church was closed in 1910 due to dilapidation, a new building in the neo-Gothic style was planned. However, this was not carried out when the First World War broke out. Instead, the church was renovated again. The southern gable was dug up deeply, removed and the rotten oak posts replaced. In 1939 the church was renovated again.

During the GDR era , the building fell into disrepair again, and in 1987 members of the community covered the church roof to prevent the collapse. During this measure, the dormers were removed.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the bell tower was stabilized. After further structural damage occurred, a development association was founded in 2004. Since then the church has been gradually renovated. In 2005 the church roof was renewed and the dormer windows were rebuilt. In 2006 the sandstone plinth, the painted exterior plaster, the sundial and gilding were renovated and the windows and doors were reconstructed. The renovation costs from 2004 to 2006 amounted to almost 400,000 euros.

Building description

The baroque church was integrated into the palace complex, which is no longer preserved today. The structure of the facade of the chancel is therefore reminiscent of that of an orangery . The nave adjoins the chancel, which is crowned by a small tower with a bell and clock. The entrance has been on the gable side since the reconstruction in 1848, the earlier entrance doors can still be seen from the palace park side. There is a notice board above the entrance. A sundial is attached to the south side of the church.

Interior

The large windows make the interior appear bright. The light and simple interior is kept white. Only the chancel, the pulpit and the patronage boxes are set off by subtle gold decorations. Galleries have been drawn in on the sides of the nave.

The sanctuary is designed with curved ornaments in the style of the Rococo , these curved shapes are continued in the altar steps, the altar and the church stalls. The cross on the altar dates from 1848. It is made of zinc and was later gilded. On special occasions, a white crucifixion group made of Meissen porcelain is placed on the altar . It was created by the Dresden artist Johann Joachim Kändler in 1747. The decoration also includes a baptism, which was restored in 1956.

The only church bell dates from 1569.

At the end of 2019, Orgelbau Reinhard Hüfken installed a new organ with two manuals and a pedal behind the restored prospectus from the early 19th century, which should be completed in spring 2020.

use

The friends' association, which was founded on February 24, 2004, collects donations for the further renovation of the church and organizes musical events. The church is used for services on Sundays by the Evangelical Church Community of Lauchhammer-West, which is part of the Bad Liebenwerda parish of the Evangelical Church of Central Germany .
