The clew is the rearmost lower tip of a sail that is when sailing close to the wind most leeward located.

On the high sail, the line of the downhaul is attached to the clew .

When Rahsegel three ropes can be posted at the clew:

  1. The sheet: It is guided aft and is used to bring the sail to port or starboard aft.
  2. The jibe: It is the counterpart to the sheet; she brings the sail forward .
  3. The Geitau : It is used to reef the sail and runs through the leech up to the Rahnock and from there to the mast and down to the deck.
