In mechanical engineering, a chute is a loading channel and similar conveying and filling devices . It is a special type of pipeline for the directed transport of solids , especially bulk materials, by means of gravity.

Alternative names are:

A chute usually consists of several joined sheets. The following fittings are used to prevent or slow down mechanical wear caused by the material:

  • Constructively enforced brakes (material cushion)
  • wear-resistant sheets
  • Plastic linings

Depending on the design, chutes are divided into, for example

  • Pant chimes (branching of the material flow)
  • Folding chutes (the speed of the material flow is reduced or transport is temporarily prevented)
  • Guide gutters (belt conveyor).
