A safety flasher is usually a stand-alone signaling device or a field of a traffic light system . It can be seen for the subordinate traffic. Roadways and pedestrian streets parallel to the direction of travel can receive a green signal together. In order to signal to the turns that they are of lower priority if they could come into conflict with traffic that is switched to green, safety flashers are installed.

The subordinate turning traffic is warned by arrow symbols in the direction of travel.

Safety indicators with pedestrian or bicycle symbols warn motor traffic of this crossing non-motorized traffic.

Safety flasher for pedestrians signal to pedestrians that they are subordinate to a rail vehicle such as a tram.
