Scott Turow (born April 12, 1949 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American writer and lawyer .

Life

After graduating from Harvard University , Turow worked as a prosecutor in Chicago from 1978 to 1986. During this time he represented the indictment in several corruption trials . He then devoted himself to writing books, for which he received several awards, including the Silver Dagger of the British Crime Writers' Association (CWA).

Scott Turow's book Presumed Innocent was filmed in 1990 by Alan J. Pakula with Harrison Ford in the lead role. His novels about the US judicial system are bestsellers , with over 25 million copies sold worldwide.

Turow is an opponent of the death penalty . As a partner in the law firm Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal in Chicago, he took on a number of cases free of charge (pro bono) and in 1995 obtained the release of Alejandro Hernandez, who had spent eleven years innocent on death row . Turow was a member of a commission that recommended that the Illinois governor suspend the execution of all death sentences because of serious procedural errors in many of the cases investigated.

Turow has been married to his wife Annette since 1971 and has three children.
