final
Stephen Hendry initiated the re-edition of the Scottish Masters in 1989 and then won it twice in a row. As defending champion, Ken Doherty had the chance to follow suit. Before that, Cliff Thorburn had been a double winner and Steve Davis had even been a triple winner . At the Irish Masters 1992 both players had already faced each other in a final and Hendry had won, but in the very first professional encounter before that in the same year Doherty had defeated the Scots once before.
Hendry took the lead twice at the beginning of the game, the Irishman equalized twice and then won three more frames. At the end of the session, Hendry was only able to reduce it to 3-5. In the evening Doherty increased the lead to three frames again and Hendry struggled to shorten it. It wasn't until 7: 8 that he came back within one frame, but that came too late. Unlike in the previous year, 9 frames won were enough to win ( Best of 17 ) and the Irishman then got the last necessary frame to 9: 7. For Doherty it was already the seventh win in a professional tournament, but there was only one ranking tournament below it.
