Life

Riegele was the younger son of Sebastian Riegele Sen. (1833–1908) and his wife Anna, b. Welzhofer (1833-1887). His father was born out of wedlock to Theresia Riegele in Lauterbrunn .

In 1884, his father bought the brewery property and beer tavern Zum Goldenen Roß in Augsburg from Johanna Kähn for 375,000 gold marks. The brewery had existed since 1386. In 1904 he took over the management of the S. Riegele brewery from his father . Business went so well under his leadership that the small company developed into the largest private brewery in Augsburg.

In 1911 he bought the premises at the main train station just outside the city to build a new brewery. The old brewery on Königsplatz was demolished soon afterwards, so that the new building of the so-called Riegele-Haus could begin, which was completed in 1913. In the interwar period he was able to expand again, for example in 1919 he acquired the Huss malt house and in 1928 the Alex brewery. Stötter AG .

For his services he received the honorary title of a commercial councilor. He was one of the last bearers, as the Weimar Republic had actually abolished all titles. After his death, the company was managed by his daughter Johanna Priller, b. Riegele, as well as her husband Josef Priller , who retrained to become a master brewer .
