Seckmauern is the second largest district of the municipality of Lützelbach in the Odenwaldkreis in southern Hesse with around 1600 inhabitants .

geography

The place is in the Odenwald on the Hessian-Bavarian border. The Steinbach , also known as Bäsch in the local dialect, flows through Seck walls .

history

According to tradition, seck walls from a Roman fort of the 2nd century a. Z. have emerged. In fact, the Seckmauern Fort (ORL 46) was located a little over a kilometer north of today's town center on a hill.

The first surviving documentary mention in the so-called Koppelfutterregister as Sickinmuren points to the year 1247. In 1366, the village belonged to the Counts of Wertheim as part of the Breuberg rule . In 1806 the place came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse with the Breubergische Zent Lützelbach .

On February 1, 1971, in the course of the regional reform in Hesse, the voluntary merger with Haingrund to form the municipality of Steinbachtal , which in turn merged into the municipality of Lützelwiebelsbach on August 1, 1972 , which has been called Lützelbach since July 1, 1973 . For Seckmauern, as for every district of the newly created community, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was formed.

Sights and culture

Seckmauern is considered a small carnival stronghold in the northern Odenwald. In addition to the ceremonial meetings, the parade on Shrove Sunday is the parish's annual highlight.

The sports club TSV Seckmauern 1912 eV has existed since 1912, since the re-establishment in 1947 and the establishment of a soccer department in 1949, the club has been mainly active in soccer and has played several times in the region's group leagues. 600 members are active in the association.

There is also a playground, a boules court, two Catholic and one Protestant churches.
