Selman Ada

Selman Ada (born February 24, 1953 in Ceyhan ) is a Turkish pianist, conductor and composer of classical music .

Ada began composing at the age of seven, and when he was twelve he went to Paris in 1965 to study , where his teachers included Pierre Pasquier , Anette Dieudonné , Christian Manen , Roger Boutry and Elsa Barraine . In 1971 he finished his studies in Paris and became assistant and student of the Istanbul General Music Director Robert Wagner. In 1975 he stepped in as a conductor in a performance of Mozart's Don Giovanni in Istanbul, which marked the beginning of an extensive career as a conductor in Turkey. 1979/80 he held the post of general music director of the Ankara State Opera. From 1980 until his death he was also the song accompanist for Mario del Monaco . He later returned to Paris and taught accompaniment and conducting at the École Normale de Musique there . Since 2002 he has been general music director of the Mersin State Opera , and in 2009 he was appointed general music director of all Turkish state theaters.

His two operas, Ali baba ve kırk haramiler (' Ali Baba and the forty robbers') and Aşk-i memnu (based on the novel by Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil ) have been and are played across Turkey. The German premiere of "Ali Baba" took place on March 25, 2012 in the Wuppertal Opera House.
