Senonae

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Senonae is a not yet clearly localized settlement in ancient Gaul . There is much to suggest that Senonae is the main town of the Senones , i.e. today's Sens on the Yonne in Bourgogne , but localization in Senon is also possible .

The later Roman Emperor Julian spent the winter there on his campaign against the Teutons in the Rhine area in 356 and had to survive a siege here (see also Marcellus ).

Decentius , brother of the opposing Emperor Magnentius , died in Senonae in AD 353.
