Sepp Hürten

Sepp Hürten (born May 1, 1928 in Cologne ; † April 24, 2018 ) was a German sculptor .

Life

After military service and imprisonment from 1945/1946 to 1951, Hürten studied sculpture with Wolfgang Wallner and Ludwig Gies at the Cologne factory schools; He also received training in carving from Robert Peter Karge in Cologne. From 1951 he became a freelance artist and from then on was mainly active in the field of church art, preferably in the churches of the dioceses of Cologne, Trier and Paderborn.

In 1956 he took part in the exhibition "The New Church, Building and Equipment" on the occasion of the Catholic Day in Cologne. In 1960 he was a guest at the exhibition "New Churches in the Archdiocese of Cologne 1950/1960" in Bologna and from 1962 to 1963 at the exhibitions "Contemporary Christian Art in the Archdiocese of Cologne 1945–1962" in the Galerie Creuze / Paris and in Tongeren. In 1964, Hürten was a guest at the exhibition “Ars sacra. Church art in the Archdiocese of Cologne 1945 to 1964 "and 1975 in" Ars sacra '75. Contemporary Church Art ”, both in Cologne. Hürten lived in Cologne-Hochkirchen .

He died on the night of April 24, 2018.
