Grand Duke Sergei Michailowitsch Romanow ( Russian Сергей Михайлович Романов ; * 25 September July / 7 October  1869 greg. In Borjomi , Tbilisi Governorate , Russian Empire ; † July 18, 1918 in Alapajewsk ) was a member of the Romanov family Holstein-Gottorp .

Life

Sergei was the fifth son of Grand Duke Michael Nikolajewitsch Romanow (1832-1909) and his wife Princess Cäcilie von Baden (1839-1891), named after their marriage Olga Feodorovna .

His affair with the Russian ballerina Matilda Kschessinskaja attracted attention , as she had another relationship with Sergei's cousin Andrei Vladimirovich Romanov at the same time . He is therefore one of the two possible fathers of Kschessinskaja's son Vladimir Romanowsky-Krasinsky, born in 1902; paternity could never be unequivocally established.

On July 18, 1918, one day after the shooting of the Tsar and his family , the former Grand Duke and other members of the imperial family were murdered by the Bolsheviks near the western Siberian city of Alapayevsk.
