Shabbir Banoobhai

Shabbir Banoobhai (born October 23, 1949 in Durban ) is a South African poet .

Life

After completing his schooling, Banoobhai began studying at Springfield College to later become a teacher. In 1970 he was elected President of the Student Representation and became editor of the university newspaper Aspect , which was banned several times because of sharp criticism of the apartheid regime .

At college he met Fatima Meer . When she recognized Banoobhai's poetic talent, she introduced him to the poet Douglas Livingstone .

Banoobhai graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in business administration. After a short period as a teacher, he finally started working as an accountant .

With his poetic work, Banoobhai tries to propagate ideas of a more humane society, a society that not only respects all its members as human beings, but also understands them as spiritual and essentially divine beings.
