Shaun Carl Micheel (born January 5, 1969 in Orlando , Florida ) is an American professional golfer of the PGA TOUR . He belongs to the circle of major winners.

He attended Indiana University and became a professional golfer in 1992 . After Micheel could not initially assert himself permanently on the big PGA TOUR , he tried the Asian Tour and the second- ranked North American Nike Tour , where he was able to achieve a tournament victory. It was not until 2000 that Micheel established himself more consistently on the PGA TOUR and in 2003 achieved the big hit with his first title - the PGA Championship , one of the four majors . After that, however, it calmed down around him again. In September 2006, he made it to the finals of the highly endowed HSBC World Match Play Championship after Micheel had defeated world number one Tiger Woods in the round of 16 . In the final he was defeated by Paul Casey from England , but his cash prize of £ 400,000 was more than what you get for winning most major tournaments.

Shaun Micheel is married to his lawyer wife, Stephanie, has one child, and is a Memphis , Tennessee resident .
