Sheeva Peo
Sheeva Peo (born November 7, 1976 ; also Sheeva Peo Cook ) is a former Nauruan weightlifter who always competed in the highest weight class of women.
Peo made her debut on the international stage at the 1997 World Championships in Chiang Mai , where she took 12th place in the individual disciplines of snatching (77.5 kg) and jerking (100.0 kg) in the 83 kg class , which was in the Overall rating meant a result of 177.5 kg and 11th place. At the 1998 World Championships in Lahti she came in 13th place in the 75 kg class with 190.0 kg (tear: 13th place with 85.0 kg; push: 14th place with 105.0 kg). The 1999 World Championships in Athens brought her the best result in the over 75 kg class up to then in the snatch with 90.0 kg, which meant 18th place out of 26 participants, but she did not succeed in a valid attempt in pushing and thus did not win any Duel placement.
In May 2000 she won the bronze medal in snatching (87.5 kg) and the silver medal in pushing (120.0 kg) at the oceanic championships in her own country, which meant a duel result of 207.5 kg and the bronze rank. In the same year, she was a member of her country's squad for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney , making her the first woman to run for Nauru at the Olympic Games. In the over 75 kg class, she took tenth place out of eleven participants with a duel result of 220.0 kg (snatch: 97.5 kg; push: 122.5 kg).
Six years later, Peo appeared again on the international stage for her country at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne : In the 75 kg class, she lifted a total of 215 kg and thus took fourth place among eleven participants in the duel.
In 2009 she was elected General Secretary of the Nauruan Weightlifting Association.
