Shepperton is a town in the municipality of Spelthorne the county of Surrey in southern England , just outside London . In 2001 it had 10,796 inhabitants. It is shared by the M3 Motorway . In the south, the Thames forms the border with the Runnymede district . Some islands in the Thames are part of Shepperton, including Lock Island (northern part), Hamhaugh Island , Pharaoh's Island and Penton Hook Island .

The name Shepperton comes from Shepherd's Town ( English for 'shepherd town').

Shepperton are Shepperton Studios resident.

Shepperton originally belonged to Middlesex County . When Greater London was formed in 1965 and Middlesex was dissolved in return, it became the county of Surrey.

The River Ash flows in the north of the village.
