Sidney's Family Tree is an American animated short film directed by Art Bartsch and Gene Deitch from 1958.

action

Sidney the elephant is in mourning because all animal children have parents, except for him at 44 years old. Neither the hippopotamus nor the giraffe want to adopt him, but Sidney finds an adoptive mother in a monkey woman. Your monkey man is horrified when he is presented with his new adopted child, especially since Sidney now wants to sit on trees like his parents and so breaks the branches. The monkey man eventually lures Sidney up a mountain in the hope that he will fall. Since Sidney digs along the rock, he finally wants to lure him into a rock cave and lock him up, but when Sidney tries to get through the narrow cave hole, he brings the entire rock to collapse. A little later, the "Sidney problem" seems to solve itself: The elephant falls in love with a female elephant and leaves his parents. The monkey man triumphs, the monkey mother mourns - until Sidney finally appears on the tree with his lover and announces that they both want to move in with them until they can afford their own place to stay.
