Siglind Bruhn (born October 11, 1951 in Hamburg ) is a German musicologist and concert pianist .

Life

Siglind Bruhn grew up as the daughter of the engineer Ernst Bruhn and the interpreter Leonore Bruhn, née Kieberger, in Hamburg . Even before graduating from high school in 1970, she studied three semesters in Eckart Besch's piano class at the Hamburg University of Music , then in the master class of Wladimir Horbowski at the Stuttgart University of Music ; 1975 State examination in music with a major in piano . She also took Romance studies , comparative literature and philosophy at the University of Munich; 1976 Magister Artium with a thesis on the drama Ramón del Valle-Incláns. During this time she met her future husband, the philosopher Gerhold K. Becker . In the years 1976-78 Siglind Bruhn wrote her first book, which combines the pedagogical legacy of her teacher Horbowski with her first own research. After a further four years of professional activity, she enrolled at the University of Vienna , where she received her doctorate summa cum laude in the spring of 1985 with an interdisciplinary dissertation in the subject area of music analysis and psychoanalysis . Two years later, she followed her husband, who had meanwhile taken a job in Hong Kong , to Asia and taught at Hong Kong University for six years . During her first sabbatical year from 1993-1994, which she spent at the University of Michigan , USA, she was appointed to the local humanities research institute, where she is now a research associate for life.

Concert activity

First piano recitals and solo appearances with orchestra from the age of 14. Since then, concert activity as a soloist and in various chamber music ensembles in 23 countries on all continents, radio recordings with most West German and several foreign radio stations.
