Robert Indiana: LOVE

Signal art describes a style of fine art that emerged in the 1960s . It is, starting from the Nachmalerischen abstraction (Post-Painterly Abstraction), with the color field painting and the Hard Edge used in which areas and objects, usually in bright primary colors and / or signal colors are designed symmetrically or concentrically. In its visual language, signal art concentrates primarily on advertising or traffic signs and cites them as striking pictograms or typographical set pieces that dominate the urbanized landscape and influence the perception of public space through their iconography , thus congruent in the statement with the contemporary Pop Art .

Representatives are the US-American Robert Indiana and in the German-speaking area Peter Brüning , Winfried Gaul and Georg Karl Pfahler .
