Sigrid Reinitzer

Sigrid Fridrun Reinitzer (born February 11, 1941 in Graz ) is an Austrian librarian . She was director of the Graz University Library for many years .

Life

Reinitzer comes from a family of academics. Her grandfather Friedrich Reinitzer was the discoverer of liquid crystals . Her brother is the Germanist Heimo Reinitzer . Sigrid received her school education in Graz and graduated from high school in 1959. This was followed by studies at the University of Graz . She studied law , German , geography and folklore and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . From 1968 to 1970 she initially worked as a secretary at the Association of Women Academics in Styria , before completing a diploma in chemical engineering from 1970 to 1972. From 1971 she was also employed at the Graz University Library and completed her library training.

In 1978 Reinitzer became head of the IT and information department of the Graz University Library. In 1984 she was promoted to deputy library director Franz Kroller . The Association of Austrian Librarians elected her as its President in 1988. On September 1, 1989, she was appointed head of the library and, accordingly, court councilor. Her work was instrumental in the introduction of electronic data processing and digitization in the Austrian library system.

Reinitzer has published a large number of articles in specialist publications. She also worked as a co-editor of the specialist journals ABI Technik , BITonline and VÖB-Mitteilungen.
