Silence 4 was a pop-rock - band from Portugal .

history

The band was formed in Leiria in 1995 by David Fonseca , Tozé Pedrosa, Rui Costa and Sofia Lisboa. After they won a young talent competition in 1997, they first gained more attention with their version of Erasures A little respect on the compilation Sons de Todas as Cores , alongside names like Sérgio Godinho , Delfins , Pedro Abrunhosa and others. a. The song was played a lot on the radio, very often on RDP Antena 3 . In 1998 they signed a record deal with Polygram Portugal, and released their debut album in the same year. Silence becomes it achieved multiple platinum status and enabled them to tour all of Portugal, especially at the most important festivals and in the context of Expo 98 , where they performed several times, for example in the Pavilhão Atlântico . Contrary to the wishes of PolyGram, they continued to sing mostly in English. The band justified this with their preference for English-speaking bands like Pixies , Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil . Her second album Only pain is real from 2000 also achieved platinum status.

You were awarded the Globos de Ouro in 1999 and 2001 .

After a last tour in 2001, the band announced the end of their work in 2002. The decisive factor was the decision of the singer David Fonseca to start a solo career. He then became very successful as a solo artist in Portugal.

The recording of the Silence 4 concert on December 19 and 20, 2000 in the Coliseu dos Recreios , which was only released in 2004 as a double CD and DVD, hit the charts.
