The Simin Opera Theater was an opera house in Moscow , Russia .

history

The Simin Opera Theater was founded in Moscow in 1903 by the Russian entrepreneur Sergei Simin .

The company realized the world premieres of such operas as The Golden Cockerel by Rimsky-Korsakov , Soeur Béatrice by Alexander Tichonowitsch Gretschaninow and Izmena by Ippolitov-Ivanov . The Russian premieres of La fanciulla del West ( Puccini ), Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg ( Wagner ), Iris ( Mascagni ) and Zazà ( Leoncavallo ) also took place there.

Many well-known Russian and Italian opera singers appeared in the company, including Georges Baklanoff , Lina Cavalieri , Fyodor Chaliapin , Leonid Sobinov , Valerija Barsova and Titta Ruffo .

The sets and costumes were designed by Russian artists such as Ivan Bilibin , Viktor Wasnezow and Nicholas Roerich .

In the fourteen-year history of the institution, more than 120 operas have been performed.

The company closed in May 1917.
