Since I Kissed My Baby Goodbye

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Since I Kissed My Baby Goodbye ( since I kissed my girl goodbye ) is a song written by Cole Porter in 1941 . In the Four Tones version , it was used as a film song in the film musical Realm You Will Never Be Used. At the Academy Awards in 1942 , the song was nominated in the Best Song category, but was subject to The Last Time I Saw Paris by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein from the film Lady Be Good .

In Rich You Will Never Be , Since I Kissed My Baby Goodbye is sung in a prison cell by the lead singer of the Four Tones, Lucius Brooks , while Fred Astaire tap- dances in a neighboring cell . The first lines of the chorus are:

Evenin 'creepin' down the mountain
Wakes up Mister Firefly,
Bullfrog, settin 'there,
Starts a-croakin ', but I don't care,
Since I kissed my baby goodbye.

Fred Astaire released another version in September 1941 with the Delta Rhythm Boys as backing vocalists.
