The Sir Gusche Band is a German sextet of traditional jazz . It was founded in West Berlin in 1961.
history
The group, which emerged from the Storyville Jazzmen , is named after the nickname of its band leader Klaus Beyersdorff and initially focused on New Orleans jazz . As early as the 1960s, she took part in jazz festivals in Germany, Switzerland and Austria , sometimes as a quartet ; Only recordings of the sextet were made in 1965 at the Vienna Jazz Festival. On the occasion of a 1967 tour of the formation in the USA, three members of the band received honorary citizenship of the city of New Orleans. In 1974 a single was created. Together with singer Peter Petrel , the debut album was recorded in 1979, which was awarded the German Record Prize. In the same year the formation opened a concert with Ken Colyer , Papa Bue , Acker Bilk and Chris Barber ; she also played at the "Chancellor Festival" in the Berlin Philharmonic . More albums followed.
In 1991 the group was invited to Dresden for the International Dixieland Festival ; at the radio exhibition she performed with the singer Bill Ramsey ; there was also an appearance at the Komische Oper in Berlin (with the Semper House Band from Dresden). Since personnel changes in 2003, the sextet has opened up to swing . Live performances are documented on the albums Ice Cream and Running Wild .
The band used to play regularly in the Eierschale and other jazz clubs in Berlin (such as organ organ, roof hatch, Joe's Schnapshaus, Joe's Bierhaus, Club18 ). It currently appears in the Yorckschlösschen, the small world lantern, the imperial court and again in the eggshell. In recent years she has also presented her program at the jazz festivals in Neuruppin, on the Danish islands of Bornholm and Röm, and in Copenhagen .
