Slavorum Apostoli

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Slavorum Apostoli (The Apostles of the Slavs) of June 2, 1985 is the fourth encyclical of Pope John Paul II. It was written in memory of the work of evangelization of Saints Cyril and Methodius 1,100 years ago .

After some biographical references to the Slav apostles, he introduces them as “heralds of the Gospel”. They would have planted the Church of God and had the Catholic spirit of the Church in mind. Building on this, the Pope thinks about the right relationship between “gospel and culture” and emphasizes the importance and radiance of the Christian millennium in the Slavic regions.
