Snowdonia (Welsh Eryri ; Eng. "Eagle's Nest") is a region in north Wales and is protected as a national park . It is known for its spectacular mountain ranges. The English name is derived from Wales' highest mountain, the 1085 m high Snowdon . The Welsh name ( Eryri ) comes from the word eryr (Eng. " Eagle ").

The Snowdonia National Park (Welsh: Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri ) is 2170 km², making it the third largest in Great Britain. It was the first of three Welsh national parks in 1951 and the third in England and Wales to be recognized as such. Unlike comparable national parks in other countries, Snowdonia is almost 70 percent private. Your and the public land are coordinated by a central planning authority.

26,000 people live in the park. These still operate agriculture in the country, which consists mainly of mountains and open spaces.
