Soile Isokoski

Soile Marja Isokoski (born February 14, 1957 in Posio , Finland ) is a Finnish opera , lied and concert singer ( lyric soprano ).

Life

Soile Isokoski studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki , where she made her concert debut in 1986. In 1987 she was awarded 2nd prize in the Cardiff BBC Singer of the World competition. In 1988 she won first prize in the Elly Ameling competition and in 1990 in the Tokyo singing competition. She made her operatic debut in 1987 as Mimì ( La Bohème ) at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki. In a short time she sang at most of the major opera houses in the world, including La Scala in Milan , Vienna State Opera , Hamburg State Opera , Berlin State Opera , Bavarian State Opera , Opéra National de Paris , Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, Saxon State Opera Dresden , Metropolitan Opera and with the festivals in Salzburg , Edinburgh and Savonlinna . She has a diverse, extensive concert repertoire and regularly gives recitals with her piano partner Marita Viitasalo .

In 2002 Soile Isokoski received the coveted Gramophone Editor's Choice Award for her recording of the Four Last Songs and other orchestral songs by Richard Strauss with Marek Janowski and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra . Her album Jouluyö, Juhlayö was honored with a gold record in Finland in 2006 . In 2008 she was awarded the title of chamber singer by the Vienna State Opera .

In November 2014, just before a Rosenkavalier series at the Vienna State Opera , Soile Isokoski announced in an interview that he would slowly withdraw from the opera stage and concentrate primarily on concerts.
