The Sommerau waterfall is a waterfall in the village of Sommerau (an der Ruwer) in the district of Trier-Saarburg , Rhineland-Palatinate . The total height is two meters, the main case is one meter high. The waterfall was created by a meander cut and, along with the Sommerau castle ruins, is a landmark of the place.

By the 13th century, the Ruwer meandered around the castle hill of Sommerau Castle , which was first mentioned in 1303. The rock at the neck of the meander loop was broken through by the Trier knight family Von der Brücke when the castle was built , creating a waterfall on the deepened new stream. A mill was mentioned there for the first time in 1572 , the Sommerau grinding mill that still exists today. Sommerau was a place of millers for centuries.

Above the waterfall, the Ruwer-Hochwald-Radweg runs along the route of the former Ruwertalbahn .
