Sonja Hegasy

Sonja Hegasy (* 1967 in Leverkusen ) is a German scholar of Islam and deputy director of the Center for the Modern Orient .

Life

She completed her studies in Islamic Studies in Cairo , Bochum , New York and at the University of Witten / Herdecke and received her doctorate in 1996 from the Department of Political Science at the Free University of Berlin . Until 1998 she worked as a junior expert at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Cairo. First employed as a research assistant at the Center for the Modern Orient in Berlin, from 2008 she became its deputy director and chair of the “Science and Current Affairs” advisory board of the Goethe Institute in Munich.
