Sonny Berman
Saul "Sonny" Berman (* 21st April 1925 in New Haven , Connecticut ; † 16th January 1947 in New York City ) was an American jazz - trumpet of bebop . He played with Serge Chaloff and Woody Herman .

"Sonny" Berman began as a professional musician at the age of 16 and has worked with Georgie Auld , Louis Prima , Sonny Dunham , Tommy Dorsey , Harry James and Benny Goodman ; most of all he is remembered by his membership in the First Herd of Woody Herman , where he played from February 1945 to the dissolution of the band end of the 1946th Berman stood out for his innovative solos and the versatility of his style.
Sonny Berman died in New York City at the age of 22, believed to be of a drug overdose. In the course of the bebop era, he was in the process of building a reputation for himself through his own recordings. In the Woodchopper's Holiday session on January 24, 1946, he played the tracks Ciretose, Down With Up, Hoggimous Higgimous and The Slumbering Giant with bop musicians around Serge Chaloff .
