Sonny Is King is an LP released in 1963 by American harmonica player Sonny Terry .

The LP contains recordings from 1960 on the A side (tracks 1 to 5) with guitarist Lightnin 'Hopkins and a rhythm section with Leonard Gaskin on bass and Belton Evans on drums. Although both had different styles, a mutual understanding immediately developed in the studio. The recordings on the B-side of the LP were made two years later with his longtime companion Brownie McGhee. Terry is only accompanied by the guitar here; the recordings manage without a rhythm section .

In 1990 the recording was digitally edited and re-released on CD in the Original Blues Classics Compact Discs series by Prestige / Bluesville Records.
