Hexendolmen - Neolithic dolmen

The Sorginetxe dolmen ( Basque for 'house of the witches') is a funerary monument dating from around 2500 BC. Near the village of Arrízala (municipality of Agurain , province of Álava , Basque Country ). This is where the valley's settlers at the time, mainly cattle breeders, buried their relatives.

The graves were discovered by scientists in 1831 and excavated in 1890 by J. Apraiz, who collected arrowheads and human bones. It is one of the best preserved megalithic monuments in the Basque Country . It consists of five vertical limestones and a capstone. The dolmen reaches about 2.3 meters at its highest point and has a larger opening to the west.
