Sound of Frankfurt (Festival)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sound of Frankfurt (short SOF ) was a summer music festival in the city of Frankfurt , which took place eleven times between 1994 and 2004. The first Sound of Frankfurt was organized in 1994 for the 1200th anniversary of the city of Frankfurt am Main with three stages at the time. The festival was named after a regional style of electronic dance music, the Sound of Frankfurt , that emerged in the 1980s .

Over the years, it developed into a regular major event that always attracted large streams of visitors from all over Germany. On a total of eight stages (slightly varying in number) around 500,000 spectators followed completely different styles of music from rock , latino and house to alternative and the current top acts from the charts.

Due to their high economic factor, the events were welcomed by the administration and were under the patronage of Frankfurt's Lord Mayor Petra Roth . The festival lasted 12 hours from 4:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. The S-Bahn of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund drove to this event all night. Night buses were also used. The local partner was primarily the Hessischer Rundfunk , which always broadcast the event live on television and radio.

The last event in the series took place on July 3, 2004. The Sound of Frankfurt failed for the first time in 2005 . The organizers justified the cancellation with increased costs and a lack of sponsors. No Sound of Frankfurt took place in 2006 either. The reason was again the lack of sponsors who wanted to concentrate on the soccer World Cup in June and July , including the SkyArena . Since the festival did not take place in the following years either, it is uncertain whether it will take place again.
